A New Vision for PODER

Since opening our doors in 1997, PODER has served over 11,000 Spanish-speaking immigrants seeking English literacy, civic education, and employment training educational tools. We are dedicated to helping immigrants improve their English proficiency through our signature, five-level Integrated English (IE) program and workforce certification and licensing job training programs. Today, our wrap-around student support services, enrichment workshops, and community outreach initiatives provide Spanish-speaking adults in Chicago a wide range of immigrant integration services that empower them with the skills and resources needed to be economically independent and fully integrated into U.S. society.

We are at a critical moment in our 22-year history. While fully transitioning our program sites to Chicago’s southwest side hasn’t come without challenges, the growing pains have made way for PODER to expand our reach and impact in the Latino immigrant community. By leveraging strategic partnerships with local organizations such as Marquette Bank, Catholic Charities, and Metropolitan Family Services, PODER has already begun to lay a strong foundation for expanding our services and securing long-term sustainability. See PODER’s impact in our newly released 2019 Annual Report.

With your support, we will not only empower more students to achieve self-sufficiency and economic security, but also affect change for families and the larger community. Donate today to support PODER’s long-standing programs for the Latino immigrant community.
